About Ethan Gardner

I'm a full stack engineer with deep knowledge of front-end development and have worked extensively within the JavaScript ecosystem. My full stack experience has involved everything from creating UIs and libraries to DevOps and authoring services on AWS and other cloud platforms.

I specialize in building performant web applications and defining processes and strategies to help avoid performance regressions.

In my career, I have held leadership positions on both the management and technical track, led small teams, guided policies, and identified efficiencies that are transformative for businesses.

Currently, I'm a Principal Engineer working in the media industry where I solve problems for millions of users per year and develop, architect, and maintain software that facilitates new member acquisition and member retention for subscription-based products.

In addition to my full time position, I'm a mentor on MentorCruise. If you're someone who's making a role transition to development, a recent grad who wants help getting your first position or getting established in your first role, or an experienced developer who wants to learn new skills, I'd be more than happy to help you.

About this site

This is a re-imagination of what I want my personal site to be. The goal is to make it easier to update so I can add in-depth articles over time, as well as short thoughts about web development and performance.

The intent is to journal my professional development and learnings and is a tool for reflection so I can continue to refine my craft.

What are your hobbies?

I have played guitar for most of my life. I used to teach lessons and played in bands when I was in college. Now, I play for my own enjoyment.

I'm also physically active and participate in extreme sports like obstacle course racing, rock climbing, and skiing. I love to travel and hike, and the best trip I ever took was to Iceland.

Additionally, I enjoy billiards, love pro sports, and have been learning Spanish since 2015.
